Every month I try to do a Walk Every Day Challenge for a Week. More info here.
Day 1 – Hardwick Hall, Sat 8th December 2018
On Saturday 8th December 2018 we went for a day trip to National Trust Hardwick Hall with our friends. I was a bit doubtful about the weather when I woke up but luckily it all turned out ok.
All of a sudden it got very sunny when we picked our friends up. Upon arrival at Hardwick Hall, we decided to go for a walk around the estate and enjoy the sun. The forecast said it would be raining later, so we were planning on visiting the house then. Our masterplan worked!
Day 2 – Longshaw Guided Walk, Sun 9th Dec 2018
As you may know, I now volunteer at the National Trust’s Longshaw Estate as a walk support leader. Today we went from Longshaw to Toads Mouth, Wynyards Nick, Over Owler Tor, Skyline, Surprise View, past Longshaw pond and back to Longshaw Cafe.
Guided walks at Longshaw are free and take place every Wednesday and Sunday. Meet up is outside the cafe at 11 am returning by 1:30 pm. Suitable clothes and footwear is advisable.
Day 3 – Volunteers’ Xmas Walk, Mon 10th Dec 2018
I went on National Trust Longshaw walk leaders volunteers’ Christmas walk. We were lucky with the weather, it was crispy cold and sunny. Meeting up at the Grouse Inn and headed towards Curbar Edge. Just after Froggatt Edge, we realised we are running out of time so we turned back and made our way back to the pub via Tumbling Hill. We had our Christmas lunch at the Grouse Inn afterwards.
Day 4 – Alport Castles and Crook Hill, Tue 11th Dec 2018
The fourth day of my weekly challenge and what a cracking day it was. I needed a long walk. My friend Kev joined me and we decided to walk to Crook Hill above the Ladybower Reservoir. Short after we started walking we decided to do a little diversion to Alport Castles. I wrote a whole blog post on this walk and you can read it here.
Day 5 – Longshaw Guided Walk, Wed 12th Dec 2018
I was on duty again as a walk support volunteer for a fee drop in walk at the National Trust Longshaw near Sheffield. We did Bollehill Quarry via Padley Gorge and back to Longshaw cafe. This is one of my favourite walks in Longshaw.
Day 6 – Bamford Edge in Derbyshire, Thu 13th Dec 2018
What a brilliant day this was. I have never been to Bamford Edge, it has been on my list for a while. The views overlooking the Derwent Valley are just magnificent. I wrote a blog post on Bamford Edge and you can read all about it here.
Day 7 – Endcliffe Park in Sheffield, Fri 14th Dec 2018
On the 7th day of my December walk challenge, I had a busy morning but I still managed to pop into my local Endcliffe park. It was very chilly and frosty but I saw the kingfisher again! What a bonus.
A brilliant week with cracking walks. I really enjoyed this month’s walk challenge. It is all done for this month and I am ready to enjoy Christmas with my family now. 🙂
