Since moving to the Loch Tay area in Perthshire, Scotland in January 2022 I have been looking for a walking group which meets up during school hours. I couldn’t find one, so naturally, I created one!
If you follow my blog, you probably know about my love for walking by now. I used to volunteer as a walk leader for the Longshaw National Trust in the Peak District before we moved up north and loved it so it was just a matter of time to create this group.
Welcome to Loch Tay Hikers. 🙂
What is the aim of Loch Tay Hikers?
I am very passionate about promoting the outdoors as it is so beneficial to our physical, emotional and mental wellbeing. I am also new to the area and I am keen to meet new people and explore the beauty of the Loch Tay and beyond. It’s always better with good company. 🙂

When and where do we meet?
At the moment we meet every Tuesday morning during school hours (Perth and Kinross school term times). We tend to meet up between 9:30 – 10 am depending on a starting point. We will be back in time for school pick up but most of the time we finish the walk earlier. Please check the individual event for time and meeting place for each walk on our Facebook page.
Moreover, I will also organise family and evening walks and might do some weekend walks in the future.
We encourage car sharing if possible.
What shall I bring for a walk?
Appropriate hiking footwear, waterproofs (this is Scotland after all and the weather is very changeable) and a smile are highly recommended! Also, you might like to bring a packed lunch. Hiking poles might be handy if you use them. Don’t forget your water bottle.

How long are the walks?
Walk lengths vary but average around 3-8 miles as we need to fit it in within the school hours. Different grades. I’ll try to mix it up to suit everyone.
Are kids allowed?
Please note that the Tuesday group is an adult-only walking group. Older children are welcome but they have to be able to keep up with our pace. Having said that, this is not a race, it is a social walk. Regrettably, these walks are not suitable for someone with babies, toddlers and very young children.
As I mentioned above, I am also organising family social walks on different dates. Check out our Facebook page.

Are dogs allowed?
Well-behaved dogs are welcome at your responsibility, on lead. Off-lead when possible. Please do not attend these walks if you mind dogs. I will most certainly take my little dog on the walk. He is very friendly and loves people.
How much is it?
The walks are FREE and always will be. It makes me happy when people turn up, enjoy the outdoors, and socialise.
However, if you’ve had a great time you can buy me a virtual coffee to keep this group running. I do put a lot of research, time and effort into this walking group. If you like, use the button below but only if you really like to. It’s not compulsory though.
Important. Please read!
Please note, that by joining us on our walks, you are doing so entirely AT YOUR OWN RISK!
I am not officially trained in First Aid. In case of any emergency, we will of course collectively try to help anyhow we can but Loch Tay Hikers does not take any responsibility for any personal injury, loss or damage during our walks.
Join Us!
Fancy a leg-stretch, meeting new people and getting to know the beauty of the Loch Tay area? Whether you are a local, on holiday or just passing by – all welcome!
I appreciate that time doesn’t suit everyone but if work/life allows and you are free, come along, and give it a try. You will like it, promise!

How fun to create walking group when you could not find one in your community in Perthshire. This is definitely a great way to meet some of the people in your area. And so many great sights along the way. I hope you get a lot of people joining your group.
This looks such an excellent way to spend the day – and those sheep are just way toooo cute!
I absolutely love this idea! I have been looking for a walking group in my area as well – what an inspiration you are to just create your own. It’s the perfect way to get outside and stretch your legs!
I love that you started your own group! What a fun way to meet people and enjoy time in Scotland.
