BAMFORD EDGE IN THE PEAK DISTRICT, DERBYSHIRE

Bamford Edge was on my to-do walk list for a long time. For various reasons like being too windy, too rainy, or lack of time, I’ve never made it.  Until today.

The Walk

We parked on the A6013 next to the Yorkshire Bridge Inn for free. Taking a path going up through the woods we soon reached the Edge. The woods reminded me of Padley Gorge because of the beautiful wiggly waggly trees covered in vibrant green moss. At the top, we were greeted with some spectacular views overlooking Ladybower Reservoir

We had lots of fun taking some photos of the area at the top. Some were quite hair-raising for my liking as I don’t like heights but all save, the rocks are easily accessible. I am yet to go and take some pictures at sunrise or sunset.

Finally, we descended and returned back via New Road to the car. It’s a nice, short walk, about 3.5 miles.

Bamford Edge

Bamford Edge is an overhang of gritstone rock that sticks out north of the village of Bamford, Hope Valley in  Derbyshire. The first ascent of “Smoked Salmon”, which is graded as E8 7b was made by British climber Johnny Dawes.

Bamford Edge is at an elevation of 1381 ft (420 metres) and is very popular with walkers and climbers.

Final Thoughts

I think you would agree that the views are just breathtaking. Ladybower Reservoir with Ashopton Viaduct, Crook Hill, Win Hill, Cement Works in the Hope Valley, and on the other side amazing views of Stanage Edge. The choice is yours, but where to look first? 😉
