GUIDED WALK AROUND LONGSHAW, DERBYSHIRE

FEBRUARY 2018 WALK EVERY DAY FOR A WEEK CHALLENGE – DAY 3

What a gorgeous day today. It is still quite cold but very sunny and crisp. When I went to Longshaw yesterday I have noticed this sign:

So I asked my friend if she would like to give it a go and she said yes. Brilliant.

Distance: 4,6 miles | 7.19 kilometers
Level Easy, although it was very slippery due to snow and ice.

It was quite a big turnout; to be exact there was 21 of us!
We started off walking up across the Longshaw cark park towards the Fox House pub. Then we turned in along the pub towards the Blacka Moor and onto Totley Moss and back to Longshaw.

Looking at Totley.

Beautiful.

Railway tunnel air shaft on moorland at Totley Moss. The air shaft is to the Totley Tunnel, a 6,230-yard tunnel on the Sheffield- Manchester line between Totley and Grindleford. It was completed in 1893 and was the longest mainline railway tunnel within the UK that ran under land for its entire length.

Looking at Longshaw from the Duke’s Seat.

After the walk we ended up at the Fox House pub for lunch.

What a lovely walk. That sun was much needed. I will definitely join the guided tour again in the future as it is a great opportunity to explore another areas then my usual walks in Longshaw.
