WHIRLOW BROOK PARK – A LITTLE GEM IN SHEFFIELD

WHIRLOW BROOK  PARK IN SHEFFIELD

JUNE 2018 – WALK EVERY DAY FOR A WEEK CHALLENGE – DAY 7

Today I decided to go to Whirlow Brook Park to complete this month’s challenge. Yay! You can see my June challenge here and more info about the challenge here. It wasn’t easy. It was a very busy week and it was quite difficult to juggle everything around the walk but I was determined. I’m glad I did it. 🙂

I parked on Ecclesall Road South just outside the entrance to Whirlowbrook Hall.

Whirlowbrook Hall

Originally a family manor house built by Percy Fawcett in 1906, Whirlowbrook Hall is a stunning stone built property. In 1920 the house became home to Sir Walter Benton-Jones, a leading industrialist in the city. It was only in 1951 that the grounds became open to the public, and the venue is now renowned as one of Sheffield’s premier event and wedding venues.

The grounds are well kept with plenty of seating to relax and and there is an interesting rock garden with great floral displays. This place is also amazing in autumn with its vibrant colours. There is also a tiny play area for children with few animals carved out the tree stumps like this bear. How cute!

For those, like me,  who want a longer walk, the park leads onto a woodland area where paths take you up the Limb Brook valley. I then turned back to where I parked the car.

Beautiful short walk. I really enjoyed it. It was a gorgeous sunny weather and I met about 4 people in total. Amazing walk in the heart of a city! I would highly recommend that you visit the Whinfell Quarry Gardens which are right next to it! You won’t be disappointed!
